The gatekeepers

Matt is a troublemaker. He is a teenage delinquent who, pretty much, doesn't have much of a life. He's an orphan, has malicious friends, and is really just a criminal. But after he gets framed for a murder by his friend, he gets sent to this L.E.A.F. program. This program was made to encourage kids to get a better life. So, they send him to live in this small town in Yorkshire called Lesser Malling. The town is so small, Matt has never even vaguely heard of this town. And what's eerier, are the townsfolk. Almost half of them look like witches, or occultists, or any other sort of foul mythological thing. And over half of them are those types of things. The entire town is part of this conspiracy that involves these ancient beings called the Old Ones. The last time the Old Ones came to power, the human population went down to about 10,000. However, they were defeated by the Gatekeepers. The Gatekeepers are five teenagers with extraordinary powers. The only way to stop the Old Ones is to bring the Gatekeepers together, and when they are together, they contain exalted power. And Matt is one of the five.
I recommend this book to any fantasy fan. It is filled with quite a lot of detail, adding to the absolute eerie-ness of it. I also did it for my book talk last year! The first book is Raven's Gate, then Evil Star, followed by Nightrise, continued by Necropolis, and concluded by Oblivion.

Because of Mr. Terupt
![Picture](/uploads/1/7/6/5/17654605/2394056.jpeg?137)
This book is about an amazing teacher named Mr. Terupt (pronounced Tare-upt) and his class. This book focuses on seven kids in that class: Peter, Jessica, Anna, Danielle, Alexia (known as Lexie), and Jeffrey. Each of these characters have very different personalities. This book is basically about their year with an amazing teacher: Mr. Terupt and the crazy things they do (for example, could you ever imagine counting all the blades of grass in a soccer field?) Something terrifying/really sad happens in the middle of the year, leaving the whole class in shock for a long time. This book is really, really funny, sweet, and a little sad too (which is perfect for Katie). I really hope that you check this out at the library (it's a really amazing book). You can find it in the Horn Library, the ICPL, and the CPL. Again, I really hope that you read this!

The Healing wars
This trilogy is about a fantasy world where special people called Takers can "draw" pain. The main character, Nya is an unusual taker. I'll let you figure that out on your own. As she and her sister, Tali, struggle for survival, something bad happens. If you ever stumble upon this series, I urge you to check it out. You can definitely find this book at the Iowa City Public Library. I hope you will read this book!

THe Secrets of THe Immortal Nicholas FLamel
This series comprised of six books, by Michael Scott, is all about fantasy and weaves in well-known/important figures from history, some of which you may recognize. These books chart the adventures of Sophie and Josh, who lead normal lives. That was true, until Dr. John Dee comes and confronts the French alchemist Nicholas Flamel (the owner of the bookshop Josh works at) to a duel of magic in an attempt to steal The Book of Abraham the Mage (aka the Codex) from him.
If you ever see this series at a library, don't forget to check it out!

The Inheritance Cycle
If you're interested in fantasy, dragons, or anything in between, I bet you would like this book a lot. This is the first book of the Inheritance Cycle. This series is made up of four books. The plot follows a young farmer (Eragon) who lives with his uncle, Garrow, and his brother, Roran. But all that changes when he finds a mysterious, ethereal blue stone in the dark forest nearby; The Spine. At first Eragon just mistakes it for a valuable that can be sold for money. However, no one can tell what type of stone it is. But when in the middle of the night, it cracks, and from it emerges a small reptile with wings, and Eragon instantly knows what it is: A dragon egg.
